Finding myself blessed with the opportunity to open the Piano Playhouse
is a dream come true. I grew up in sunny southern California and knew at a very young age that I wanted to teach music. I also love playing the piano, so I chose to study Piano Performance and Music Education at Azusa Pacific University
and earned a B.A.
in May of 1983. Thirty years later, in May of 2013, I earned a Master of Arts Degree in Music Education
from Boston University
Following graduation from APU in 1983, I attended intensive training in the Yamaha Music Education System and immediately began teaching more than 120 students each week at John Waltrip's Music Center in Arcadia, California. In 1990, I moved back to my home town of Ventura, California, where I opened a Yamaha Music School, MusiQuest. In addition, I have been a private piano instructor for more than 30 years. To keep my skills sharp, I have served as an organist and pianist at various churches in California and Colorado.
When my son Billy and I moved to Colorado in 2000, I began teaching elementary classroom music, always incorporating the techniques that I had learned in my years of experience teaching young children using the Yamaha Music Education System. In May of 2014, I completed seven happy years of teaching general music to kindergarten through 5th grade students at Cherry Hills Christian School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
